It is one of the last works of the women in the
Needlework Room to sew up by hand with needle and thread the hole in the
back of the Teddy Bear's body, through that the body was filled out with
excelsior.
Besides dressing, combing and brushing the Bears, it is now still the task of the women in the Needlework Room since generations to tie the big bow around the neck of the Bear.
Long before our today's time it was always a dominate
signification of the old Sonneberg Max Hermann Teddy Bears to decorate the
Teddy Bears with a big bow. So each girl, who entered the company as an
apprentice had first to learn how to tie the Teddy Bear bow in the correct
way, and this is not so easy as it looks like. The picture on the left shows
this profession in the factory of Max Hermann about 1930.
Still today this tradition to decorate the Teddy Bear with a bow is cultivated by the descendants of Max and Hilde Hermann.
While the Teddy Bears will be finished for shipping in
the Needlework Room, we have still to stop our little sightseeing tour for
some minutes in that room, where the arms, the legs and the head come together
to be fixed at the Bear's body. So our next
stop will be the Jointing Room.
