Today
and since the middle of the Fifties it is not any longer the work of the
women in the HERMANN-Coburg Needlework Room to sew the ears on the Teddy
Bears head by hand. Only some special Artist Bear's and some special Replica
Bears of the HERMANN-Coburg collection have hand sewn on ears. All other
Bears have sewn in ears. This is a very strong signification of the
HERMANN-Coburg Teddy Bears since more than 4 decades.
Because in former times the Teddy Bears mostly
were made for children, it was always a very big problem, that the hand sewn
on ears were torn off very easy, when the children played with the Bear.
Therefore Hilde Hermann (picture right), who was
responsible for the Teddy Bear design in the first generation, changed in
the Fifties all HERMANN-Coburg patterns, so that from this time on till today
the ears can be sewn in with the sewing machine by the seamstresses in the
Sewing Room.
This was a very big change in the Fifties, which raised the quality of the old HERMANN-Coburg Teddy Bears enormously. HERMANN-Coburg was the first and only one German Teddy Bear company, which sewed in also the ears of its traditional excelsior stuffed mohair Teddy Bears, and still today you can recognise old HERMANN-Coburg Teddy Bears made later than the middle of the Fifties by this signification.
