Old Heidelberg Bear, 800 years Heidelberg
Heidelberg is one of the most popular towns in Germany for
all visitors around the World. This town is now 800 years old. (1196-1996).
Heidelberg was founded 1196 under the "Staufer Konrad" which was a brother
of Friedrich Barbarossa. The University was founded 1386 from "Kurfürst
Ruprecht I". In 1803 it was renewed by "Markgraf Karl Friedrich" and
became than the most important part of Heidelberg.
Because Heidelberg is famous for their University HERMANN designed the Bear as a student. Very typical for the University in Heidelberg are their student fraternity. The students wear as a symbol of friendship the so-called "Bierzipfel". They change it with their most closest friends. It's made of silver and you cannot buy it. You get it as a present from you closest friend.
The Old Heidelberg Bear, 15 3/4 inch, is made of German mohair, stuffed in the traditional kind with ecxelsior, dressed in the style of a Heidelberg-student with silver Bierzipfel.
