Commemorating the 100th Birthday of Max Hermann
On May 8, 100 years ago, Max Hermann was born in a small mountain village in the Thuringia forest. Out of small beginnings, Max Hermann built with his own hands the foundation for today's HERMANN teddy bears from Coburg. His teddy bears became world known.
The designers of the HERMANN-Coburg teddy bears of today, would like to dedicate to the 100th birthday of the company's founder, four special bears, which reflect around the life and work of Max Hermann.
Ulla Hermann, grandchild of Max Hermann and responsible for the HERMANN-Coburg entire collection, draws with her musical bear Max Hermann - The Happy Wanderer - the love of her grandfather to nature and to his Thuringia mountains. Whistling a song and dressed in his Trachten hat, is how his friends and family best knew him. In the few hours of spare time that Max Hermann had, he walked out in the forest to get new energy to continue his work.
Venturing with her own interpretation of the old trade mark from Max Hermann the "Bear with the Running Dog", Kristina Dietzel creates her version of the "Bear with the Running Dog". With her inimitable style, Kristina Dietzel created a special bear as teddy bear "Max", which takes a little dog on a leash for a walk. On purpose Kristina Dietzel decided not to use the famous "Fox Hound" design of the HERMANN trademark. Instead she chose the Dachshund for the small, five-time jointed, mohair dog. In the 30's, Max Hermann and his small Dachshund named "Racker" were inseparable.
The name of Max Hermann is for the American bear artist Michele Brown inseparable with bear making. "Max Hermann - the Bear Maker" is the name of her birthday greetings to Max Hermann. A special trademark from Michele Brown is to draw complete scenes with her bears. As a result she created around her "Bear Maker" a typical workshop atmosphere with a wooden bench, tool basket and three small finished bears which have just been completed by Max Hermann. Educated as a fashion designer, Michele Brown also focuses especially on the clothes of her bears, which underlines her extra-ordinary talent and her creative touch for the selection of material, colors and shapes.
By reviewing the 100-year history of Max Hermann Biggi Netzel goes back to the childhood of Max Hermann. Inspired by his biography, Biggi Netzel reminds us with her "Baby Max", that Max Hermann was in contact with bear making at a young age. Barely 14 years old, Max started with his brother Arthur and sister Adelheid, the production of his first teddy bears on October 24, 1913, in their father's house in Neufang.
