The Vienna born composer who became immortal through his waltzes and operetta's became a Coburg citizen in 1887 because of his new lover. Only in Coburg was he allowed to receive a divorce from his second wife. He married his third wife, Adele on August 15, 1887, in Coburg. Through today, Coburg is known as the German Johann Strauss city.
Johann Strauss died in Vienna on June 3, 1899. Nevertheless, up until his death he remained a Coburg citizen.
In this memory year the HERMANN-Coburg Johann Strauss Bear does not come empty handed. He is holding his conductor's baton and plays his beautiful and most famous waltz the "Blue Danube".
