Item Catalogue 1999
1999 - A year full of events! It seems like the old Millennium wants to say goodbye with a giant bang. Preparations have long been under way for the new Millennium. The countdown has long started which we accompany with our two special edition "Countdown Bears", introduced in Hennef, Germany and at the Rosemont Collectible Expo. On the one hand we celebrate the Millennium change with our "Millennium Bear" with built-in time capsule, our 20 small "Century Bears" and our "Happy New Year Bear 2000". On the other hand we also face the Millennium change critically with the "Y2K Bug Bear". Before we leap into the 21st century, many important anniversaries are occuring. On January 1, 1999 the EURO was introduced - a new currency for our old continent. Exactly 50 years ago, on May 23, 1949, the Federal Republic of Germany gained peace and freedom when its constitution was finalized. 100 years ago on June 3rd, the Waltz King - Johann Strauss died. He is most known for his beautiful waltz the "Blue Danube". It is not widely known, but the famous son of Vienna was a Coburg citizen. On August 28th, we will celebrate the 250th birthday of one of the greatest German's - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Like no one else, the poet and philosopher Goethe embodies centuries of German culture. His work and creations in Weimar, Germany have led this small town in Thuringia to be appointed as the European Cultural Capital for 1999.
The greatest event for us in 1999, as the grandchildren and heirs of Max Hermann, is the 100th birthday of our company's founder, Max Hermann. From a small beginning, Max Hermann created a foundation for our teddy bears. His ideas are still alive in our bears today. We are commemorating the life and works of Max Hermann with the introduction of four extra-ordinary teddy bears being introduced one by one during each quarter of this year. Further more special artist bears have been introduced for this event. We would be pleased if you would accompany us with our recollection of Max Hermann.
