Driven by the idea to reach India through the western seas, Christopher Columbus started in 1492 the most famous journey of mankind. Under the the leadership of the Santa Maria, three little ships left the protection of the European continent and sailed towards the West into the unknown waters of the Atlantic. Their leader was Columbus (1451/2-1506) and his expedition was to change world history dramatically. The journey led to the European Christian conquer of America.
